From time to time I create something that truly surprises me, like when I tried making whole wheat tortilla chips from scratch and ended up with a perfect replica of Wheat Thins. This is exactly what happened when I first made this Homemade Blueberry Yogurt. I ended up with a 3 ingredient, all natural, chemical free replica of Yoplait Blueberry Patch Yogurt. I felt like I hit the jackpot!
I always have frozen blueberries in the house, during off season I purchase them frozen and when they’re in season I stock up and freeze bags of the purple gems. I use them in tons of recipes like my Blueberry Syrup and in Green Smoothies for sweetness and metabolism boosting properties.
I also always keep good maple syrup in the house, it’s a great all natural sweetener, it has fewer calories than sugar and adds more sweetness than sugar and honey, so you don’t have to use as much of it. Lastly I always have to have Greek yogurt in my fridge, I use it in place of sour cream in my Skinny Nachos, Low Calorie Dips and Spicy Chili and in baking recipes to cut out some of the butter like in my Fudge Brownies.
Homemade Blueberry Yogurt is not only delicious, it’s packed full of protein, calcium, and helps improve your digestive health. Kids will also love this healthy snack, and you can be sure it doesn’t have all the sugar of some of the commercial brands.
Makes 3 servings
- 2/3 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 2 tablespoons all natural maple syrup
1. In a microwave safe bowl combine frozen blueberries and maple syrup , microwave on high for one minute until the berries have thawed and spilled out some of their juices. Do not drain, leave the juice in the bowl.
2. Add the yogurt to the bowl, mix together with the blueberries. The yogurt will thin out as you continue to stir it into the blueberry juices, once all is combined and the yogurt takes on a beautiful purple hew , it’s ready to serve.
