Homemade Skinny Trail Mix

A reader sent me a message asking me how to boost energy, so I came up with this Homemade Healthy Trail Mix Recipe. I told her to grab some almonds and some dried fruit, add some dark chocolate chips and toss together, this would help her during her night shifts to stay alert and satisfied. There is a reason hikers have trail mix in their backpacks, dried fruits and nuts boost energy. Soon after I had this conversation I had a craving for trail mix so I went to my pantry and worked with what I had, what came out if this experiment was a delicious, unique trail mix that has everyone in my family hooked.

With back to school stuff everywhere I can’t help but think how much kids would LOVE this Homemade Healthy Trail Mix in their lunch boxes (the bananas are like candy) and you can feel good about what you are giving them, lots of protein and potassium, calcium and vitamin C, this is seriously good stuff.

If you don’t like the dried fruits I have chosen pick out your own favorites, just make sure you get unsweetened dried fruit.

Makes 13 Homemade Healthy Trail Mix servings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Whole Almonds, no salt or any flavorings
  • 1 cup Dried Bananas
  • 1 cup Dried Cranberries
  • 1/8 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
  • 1/8 cup White Chocolate Chips

Homemade Healthy Trail Mix

Get started:

In a container or gallon Ziploc bag combine all ingredients. I like to just leave a 1/4 measuring cup in the bag, you may like to divide into 13 smaller containers or bags.
